ELTHAM PSYCHOLOGY CLINIC

WHAT CONDITIONS DO WE TREAT?

The psychologists at Eltham Psychology clinic treat a wide range of disorders.

ANXIETY DISORDERS

This includes social anxiety, phobias, obsessive compulsive disorder, agoraphobia, panic disorder and generalised anxiety disorder.

DEPRESSION

We treat mild through to severe depression. Mild depression can result from life stress, loss and difficulty problem solving, among other things. Severe depression is a serious condition which usually requires that we collaborate closely in your treatment with your GP.

We also help those suffering bipolar disorder to manage their moods safely. Please refer to the link below for more information on depression.

EATING DISORDERS

Eating disorders and body image concerns can result in longstanding health issues and mood problems. These disorders alter the way young people develop a healthy sense of identity and can become significant hurdles to good adult health.

RELATIONSHIP PROBLEMS

This includes marriage, parenting and parent child relationships throughout the lifespan, as well as friendships and communication problems in all intimate and important relationships. This also includes social problems for adolescents and children.

STRESS AND ANGER MANAGEMENT

Managing stress well is the foundation of psycholgical well being. There are reliable evidence based techniques for handling stress well. For more information on the effects of stress and managing stress well, please see the following link.

TRAUMA, GRIEF AND LOSS

Unexpected and catastrophic events in life can lead to serious psycholgical difficulties.  Expected loss can also lead to prolonged periods of sadness and adjustment. Whereas the latter can be normal in the circumstances, it is often helpful to seek support over these periods of time to maintain well being and assist healthy recovery.

CHRONIC PAIN AND MEDICALLY COMPLEX PSYCHOLOGICAL ISSUES

Sometimes the ways we manage physical pain becomes tangled in problems managing emotional distress. This can lead to debilitating spirals where physical pain creates psychological pain which then creates more physical pain.

Breaking these patterns is challenging but can result in much greater physical and psychological well being.

INSOMNIA

We have psychologists who specialise in the treatment of insomnia.

WHAT WE DO NOT TREAT

We do not treat conditions maintained by prescription drug abuse. If you are taking prescription drugs with addictive potential, and would like our opinion on psychological treatment, we can offer you an assessment and opinion on treatment. However, we do not commence treatment if the medication is likely to lessen the chance of a good outcome.
